DVD Storage Racks

It is too easy to pick up a cheap DVD storage rack at a department store or mega-mart.  While they get the job done, they are usually very plain in their design.  These DVD storage racks lack the style and flare that will compliment your home theater setup.

DVD Storage: Capacity

Before addressing style, you need to make sure the DVD storage unit will suit your needs.  How many DVDs do you currently own?  How often do you buy new ones?  These two questions will let you know the capacity that you should be looking for.  Plan for the future; you will buy more DVDs so plan accordingly.
You also need to take into account the types of DVDs you buy.  If you buy those in the regular sized cases, you should be fine.  However, if you have a tendency to buy collector’s editions, these tend to have larger cases and will decrease the number your DVD storage unit can hold.  DVD sets of television series also need the same consideration.  In addition, they are occasionally taller than the standard DVD case.  If you plan to buy these sets, make sure that the distance between each shelf of the storage unit will accommodate them.

DVD Storage: Style

When it comes to style for your DVD storage unit, determine whether you want your DVDs in the open for all to see or hidden away.  If you prefer hidden, cabinet style is the obvious route to take.  If you have a large library and like to show it off, a bookshelf type storage unit will probably suit you best.  You can find these types in all different styles beyond the cheap black plastic ones at the department store.
Choose a storage unit that fits well with the style of furniture you have or plan to purchase.  It should compliment your home theater without drawing attention away from the reason to have home theater; the movies.
