What is THX
Some of
you have been wondering about the THX logo you sometimes find on home
theater equipment. It can be seen on everything from home
theater cables to receivers and speakers. Knowing what the
logo means will give you a leg up when choosing your home theater
equipment.
What is THX
THX are a George Lucas company which
focuses on the area of movies, music, and gaming. The company
has exacting standards for production in these areas. The THX
logo you find on home theater equipment is a certification that the
device or accessory meets the company's standards in delivering a
quality reproduction of the source material. Whether this is
transmitting a video signal through a cable or decoding a surround
sound source in a receiver, this certification can be obtained if THX
feel that the quality is sufficient.

What THX isn't
THX is not a sound format, like Dolby
Digital or DTS. Just because you have a receiver that is THX
certified, it does not mean that you must get cables that are similarly
certified for everything to work properly. Some unethical
sales people will try to convince you otherwise. Now you know
and can easily avoid their trap.
The truth is that there are many great
cables out there that, for one reason or another, do not carry the THX
certification. This should not deter you from investigating
these products.
